The Third Alistair Hulett Memorial Concert, scheduled as part of Celtic Connections, will take place on Friday 25th January starting at 19:30; the venue is, as for our previous two outstandingly successful memorial concerts, St. Andrew’s in the Square. Performers this year include – to quote the Celtic Connections’ website – the “incisive, articulate and exquisitely expressive singer-songwriter” Karine Polwart, who’s album Traces was judged to be the Sunday Herald’s Album of the Year for 2012. Also performimg are the ever-popular Roy Bailey; Laggan co-founder Arthur Johnstone with Gavin Livingstone; rising star Ewan McLennan, winner of several awards including the 2011BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award; and Anne Neilson with Finlay Allison who have performed together many times including, of course, as members of Stramash.

This year the first half of the concert will be centred around the the theme of Red Clydeside with renditions of songs taken from Alistair’s Red Clydeside album; linking narration will be supplied by Jimmy Ross, folk singer, co-founder of the Tradition Club in Glasgow, and political activist. The second half will feature sets by Karine, Roy and Ewan.

Our previous Alistair Hulett Memorial Concerts were quickly sold out, and we anticipate this year’s being just the same, so book your tickets soon from the Celtic Connections online booking office.
