A collaboration between the Alistair Hulett Memorial Trust and the Scottish Trades Union Congress, The New Songs of Social Justice Festival – which will involve schools across Scotland – was launched by STUC President Mike Kirby as part of the 71st Annual STUC Youth Conference on 25th June 2011.
Terry Anderson (STUC Union and Community Development Officer) introduced the Festival, whilst Sheena MacDonald (Regional Organiser for the Musician’s Union) spoke about the importance of song as a campaigning tool, and of the Union’s support for the Festival. Live music was provided by AHMT Trustee Jimmy Ross and Finlay Allison. More information about the Festival will be provided on both the AHMT and the STUC websites in the near future.
